Trader Joe’s Speculoos Cookie Butter
We didn’t know bits of heaven came in little glass jars.
If you haven’t heard of Trader Joe’s Speculoos Cookie Butter, thank your lucky stars that you now do. Just so you know, it’s the grocery store’s worst kept secret. We were privileged enough have a taste test in our office and needless to say, it was love at first scoop. And yes, we ate it straight from the bottle, unglamorously.
Speculoos are thin spiced shortcrust biscuits originating from Belgium. They have a great crunch, and a slightly caramelized, almost-but-not-quite-gingerbread flavour. Unless you’ve actually tried the biscuit, there’s only one way of describing Trader Joe’s Speculoos Cookie Butter – heaven.
Retailing in 14.1-ounce jars in all Trader Joe’s outlets in the United States, the much sought-after Speculoos Cookie Butter is unavailable in Singapore. This is unless you’re purchasing it from an importer, in which you should expect a hefty markup. Also, with the recent Cookie Butter craze, several Airfrov travellers have informed us that Trader Joe’s only permits 2 jars to be purchased at a time. So, chances are you won’t find anyone reselling these in Singapore anytime soon.
Also available is a crunchier variant, the Crunchy Cookie Butter, as well as the Cookie & Cocoa Swirl – a 50% cookie butter, 50% cocoa spread. Although we didn’t have the opportunity to try out these flavours, we’re pretty sure they’ll tantalise your tastebuds regardless.
Our verdict: Trader Joe’s Speculoos Cookie Butter is absolutely worth the calories. You won’t regret it one bit.
