In our previous entry we revealed the best places to shop for beauty products in Hong Kong. In this installation we’re catering to the lazy shoppers who’s looking to only score the best deals, so keep your eyes peeled!
Now, we know that drugstore products can be really affordable (even in Singapore), and certain brands have already established their products as Holy Grail items. And here’s the big secret: You can actually purchase even cheaper drugstore products (gasp) at the many cosmetic chain outlets in Hong Kong!
Many beauty shoppers have mentioned that their savings on Korean and Japanese brands are the biggest, with up to 70% discounts if they looked hard enough for the sweetest promotions. There’s much that you can look out for when doing a beauty haul in Hong Kong, but here are the top brands that can save you a pretty penny… to shop for more stuff, of course.
Bold, confident, and colourful is what Korean makeup is about. And that’s exactly the brand direction for 3CE (aka 3 Concept Eyes). Products are versatile and multi-purpose; their ever-famous Lip Pigment could be used as a lip product of excellent pigment, or mixed with powders to form custom shades of blushers and eyeshadows.
If you’re the kind to go for the dewy look, with rosebud lips, Laneige is a brand that you shouldn’t be overlooking. From their BB cushions to skincare, every product that I’ve tried has been amazing. Plus, they’re always selling out in Korea!
Yet another Korean brand with edgy and vivid cosmetics, VDL has been making waves in the Korean beauty scene in recent years. I would say that they are the bridge between Western and Eastern styles of makeup, for the have bits of both trends in their products.
4. Heroine Make
Apart from the insanely animatic packaging, the brand also boasts of waterproof and long-wearing eye makeup that’s formulated with Asian lids in mind.
5. HADA LABO
I swear by famed Japanese skincare range Hada Labo. I’ve been using products by the brand for at least five years now, and while there are many new skincare brands that have been popping up, I have never once thought of changing up any of my Hada Labo skincare for anything else. The brand’s formula is extremely gentle, yet deeply penetrates your skin for intensive and effective pampering skincare sessions. The ~boing boing~ ad on TV is true!
Family beauty brand Maybelline has been constantly improving over the years, and truth be told, I find myself reaching out to the brand’s product more often than I even know. They’re changing with the times (of new indie brands emerging) and I’m glad to say that they did not disappoint.
Another household beauty brand that will have at least one spot in our beauty stash. One commendable product from Revlon will its lip balms, which come in crayon form for easy application. They are moisturising and comfortable on the lips.
So, what are you waiting for now! This is not a drill — it’s real and true that these brands are indeed cheaper — so start making a checklist of the products that you need before you fly to Hong Kong.
